About Beginning Singer

IanBeginning Singer is about the challenges of becoming a professional singer.

My name is Ian Sidden, and I have been performing since I was a very little boy. I have always sung; whether it was in musicals, rock bands, choirs or operas; I just couldn’t shut up. I just completed graduate studies in Vocal Performance, and now it is do or die time to attempt a professional career.

Within this blog there will be writings on my own singing experiences as I live them, writings on singing technique and pedagogical observations, interviews, book reviews, and all sorts of singing related material. Due to my own current interests, classical music and musical theater will be the primary forms written about, but the topics covered will usually apply to all singers.

I will also try to make the material as accessible as possible so that people who are not classical singers can learn something about the art form and, hopefully, gain a greater appreciation of any singers in their lives.

I used the term “Beginning Singer” to convey the idea that learning to sing is a never-ending process. I know a lot about singing, but I believe that we are never finished products as singers, and thus we should approach our art with some humility towards it and a desire to learn more and improve.

I hope this blog can help in that process.
